Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek – TNO – NL (Enlarge)

General description

The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) is the largest fully independent non-profit research organization in the Netherlands. TNO’s public mission is to support industry and society in general in transforming knowledge into products and processes of economic and societal value. TNO investigates how the built environment can best be organised, used and managed, and how the natural mineral resources in the subsurface can best be put to use. TNO Built Environment and Geosciences spearheads knowledge development on the management and use of the subsurface and the subsurface natural resources, renewable energy and energy efficiency, mobility and logistics, the development and renewal of urban and rural infrastructure and regional development.

Expertise and capacity

TNO has a broad experience in European projects, (> 100 FP5 and FP6 projects) both as coordinator and as partner and/or WP leader in the development of new technology.

TNO disposes of excellent laboratory and pilot facilities, under several for shock and vibration testing. Besides TNO has lead several projects on the prediction of vibrations, reliability of vibration predictions, writing of vibration guidelines for all kinds of vibration sources: piling, sheet piling, trains, road transport, etc.

Main tasks in the project

TNO is the coordinator of the project. Besides TNO is WP leader of WP4 Validation of measures and procedures. In WP3 Evaluation of whole body vibration TNO is WP leader of Task 1.3 – Guidance to evaluating vibration and induced noise. Furthermore, TNO will take part in those subtasks in Task 2, 3 and 4 that involve development of the scaled lab test and of the soil barrier.
